Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project
The Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) comprises of different phases to upgrade and implement new freeways of an ultimate 560km freeway network. The first phase, comprising the upgrading of 185km of the most congested freeways is currently under construction.

As stated by Economists.co.za in a study done for the Road freight Association and Afriforum on the Consumer Impact of the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Program, the GFIP is an investment much needed for the improvement of the economic infrastructure of South Africa’s most economic active province. However, much of the economic benefit of the project will disappear if toll fees are set at inappropriate levels.

After much media and public reaction on the announcement of the Toll fee structures, a steering committee was brought about to investigate the project, the financial and tariff modelling, the public transport transformation related thereto, as well as the communication and stakeholder engagement. ABC meets with Water Research Commission
The ABC recently met with the Water Research Commission (WRC) on critical water issues facing the broader agro-food industry, including on water management, water quality and agricultural development. In terms of water management the WRC have developed the Water Administration System (WAS), which has proven to be very successful where implemented.  Click here to download the press release»

Further implementation of WAS will lead to further reduction in water losses. Implementation depends on water managers/water control officers on irrigation schemes changing their “way of doing things”.  ABC members with interests in irrigation schemes are urged to participate in this innovative approach as it will in the medium to long term benefit your clients and your business. See in particular Section 3 of the paper on water measurement and canal water management.
