The Department of Minerals and Energy announced an increase of 14 cents per litre in the retail price for all grades of petrol and an increase of 29.5 cents per litre in the wholesale prices for diesel. The Fuel prices increased on 29January 2010 - According to the DME press release the following price increases were announced: Petrol (All grades): 18 cents per litre increase in retail price; Diesel (0,05% and 0,005% Sulphur): 10 cents per litre increse in wholesale price. Effective on 2 September 2009, the Department of Minerals and Energy has announced a price increase of between 21 to 36 cents per litre of retail and/or wholesale prices for Petrol, Diesel (0,05% Sulphur), Diesel (0,005% sulphur) and Illuminating paraffin. The prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin are expected to decrease on Wednesday 6 August 2009. The change is brought about due to changes observed in the period under review, being 26 June to 30 July 2009. During this period the international prices for the above mentioned three products decreased. Another contributing factor is the Rand/US Dollar exchange rate, which strengthened during his period, compared to the previous period. The Minister of Energy also approved an increase of 5,4c/l in the retail margin of all grades of petrol - this will also take effect on 5 August 2009. The retail price of all grades of Petrol is to increase by 6 cents per litre. The wholesale price of Diesel, both 0,05% and 0,005% sulphur, is to increase by 4 cents per litre. According to the DME press release the international prices actually decreased, but the Rand/US Dollar exchange rate weakened with a mere 20 cents per US Dollar, between 29 January 2010 and 25 February 2010. The prices are adjusted in such a manner that over- or under-recovery during the prior month will be corrected in the following month. Please click here to download the DME press release
