GQEBERHA, 4 June 2026 – The Agbiz Congress 2026 officially commenced in Gqeberha today, bringing together leaders from across South Africa's agricultural value chains under the theme, Embracing Collaboration.
The opening day of the Congress began with the election of Agbiz's new Steering Committee, marking an important milestone for the organisation as it continues to advance the interests of agribusinesses operating across South and southern Africa.
Members elected PG Strauss as Chairperson, with Lukeshni Chetty and Francois Swanepoel elected as Deputy Chairpersons.
The newly elected Steering Committee members are Boitshoko Ntshabele and Tobias Doyer.
In addition, Agbiz announced its newly elected member representatives:

• Piet Smit
As a voluntary, dynamic and influential association of agribusinesses, Agbiz plays a critical role in ensuring that agribusiness contributes constructively to South Africa's economic growth, development and transformation, while creating an environment in which businesses of all sizes can thrive, expand and remain competitive.
The strategic intent of Agbiz is to enable businesses across South Africa's agricultural value chains to operate competitively and sustainably, both domestically and globally.
With a packed programme ahead, delegates will engage on key issues shaping the future of agriculture, agribusiness, trade, logistics, finance, sustainability, policy and investment. The Congress theme, Embracing Collaboration, reflects the importance of partnerships and collective action in unlocking growth opportunities and addressing the challenges facing the sector.
