FMD Response: Handover of Goods between Agbiz, AFASA, Agrinet and SANSOR

Agbiz continues to work closely with the National Department of Agriculture to align industry support with government led FMD response efforts across provinces. Agbiz has been coordinating priority needs, responding to growing requests from private sector stakeholders for biosecurity equipment, and mobilising member contributions through a structured, transparent outreach initiative.

A formal briefing was issued to Agbiz members outlining priority requirements, governance arrangements, and mechanisms for financial and in kind support, ensuring accountability and coordination through official response structures.

Key contributions to date include:
SANSOR: Cash donation of R500 000
Agrinet: Disinfectants, face shields, disposable overalls
Agrimark: Disinfectants, antiseptic soaps, knapsack sprayers

Distribution highlights:
PPE (R1 150) to the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Onderstepoort Biological Products
Chemicals (R6 660) to the Milk Producers Organisation
Handover of cooler boxes, face shields, sanitisers, syringes, and needles to provincial state veterinarians and AFASA smallholder farmers, for North West, Free State, and KwaZulu Natal.

Additional goods valued at approximately R330 520 are currently being procured for distribution across public and private response efforts, based on assessed needs and readiness.

Overall, Agbiz is reinforcing its role as a trusted conduit between government and industry, ensuring coordinated, responsible deployment of resources in support of national FMD response objectives.
